There are many different wine label sizes available to winemakers. When making DIY wine labels, you may think that designing your label first and then putting them on your bottles makes sense. But remember this: Size matters! Well, wine label size, that is.
Wine Bottle Parts
Wine bottles can have vastly different body sizes. The body is the flat part between the heel and the shoulder where you adhere the label. Unless you have a label shape that is specifically designed to work on a curved surface, the flat wall of the body is the only place your label should go.

We were happy sponsors of the WineMaker Magazine Home Winemaking Conference again this year. The 2018 conference was held May 17 to 20 in San Diego, CA. As you may remember, we now live on the West Coast. San Diego is practically our back yard, and we spend a lot of time in the area and have met a lot of home winemakers. It was especially enjoyable not to have to travel far.
There were hundreds of winemakers there this year from all over North America. There were even winemakers from the Philippines who made the trek to California! We all were there with a primary purpose in mind: to learn to make better wine. Continue reading

But your choice of colors can send a message – subtle, or not-so-subtle – about your wine’s taste and characteristics. Using color in your wine label is a simple way to make your wine stand out … and can even help others enjoy your wine more. Continue reading

We always enjoy our trips to the WineMaker Magazine Conference. This year, with the home winemaking conference in Santa Rosa, CA, we were excited to have a chance to explore more of California’s wine country. It was our first trip to the area. (Can you believe it?) We took a few extra days and spent some time in Napa, Suisun Valley, Lodi, and Sonoma. Of course, it wasn’t long enough to fully enjoy the area, but we did our best!
